Date: 2018-02-10 06:59 pm (UTC)PS. I have some questions about Torn World, if you have the time to let me bother you about that :) If you have said time, what would be the best way (here/e-mail/other) to ask said questions?

Date: 2018-02-13 09:51 pm (UTC)Anyways, it finally looks like I'll have some time to get into reading TW (by late March/early April it looks like), and I have some wonderings about how the site and world "works". Especially if it turns out I might want to try and dip my toe into the TW pool :)
1) Is it okay to just start commenting on stories and art, if you have a TW account? That's the impression I got, but I don't want to go do something that's frowned upon or anything.
2) How much of the plot is set ahead of time and how much influence do non-admin creators have on what happens next? Is it more of a "this is what the next plot- and sub-plots will be, play around within that field"-situation, a "this is the main plot, make up your own sub-plots within/besides that", or something different?
3) What should one have done before trying one's hand at writing for the TW world (reading stories/articles/arts of course, but is there a set "minimum limit" for what one should have taken part of?) and what's the "approval/editing" process like?
I'll likely have more credit-related questions later on, but I thought I'd start there XD I've tried to read through the summaries on the website, but I think I'll have to give that a second and third read-through before I fully get the info.
Edited to add:
I seem to have lost all track of my log in information for Torn World! Silly me, I can't even remember what username I picked. Is there any way I can get a reminder of e-mail and/or username? Or did I just dream that I registered for TW?XD Never mind, I figured out my password and username - I just typo:ed the previous time I tried to log in.no subject
Date: 2018-03-01 06:35 pm (UTC)Yes, please do jump in on commenting. I find it's the best way to get started (and it has the bonus of being really encouraging to the current creators). :)
We have a sort of a vague 'this is the big storyline' outline at the forum, but it's literally a few lines about when the north-meets-south stuff goes down. It's awfully open to starting your own subplots.
There's no minimum for activity before jumping in! Just read enough of the intro material to understand some of the basics (like no magic, no guns, snow-unicorns are BIG) and HAVE FUN.
The approval process is painless but thorough. You get to choose what level of edits you're looking for - minor (just typos and grammar-level stuff), major (we'll give pacing and organization suggestions as well), or none (with the caveat that typos could keep the work from being accepted as canon).
You submit right at the site, and get the edits there as well. You can 'accept' the edits (which means you don't want to change them, but you will allow us to). Or you can make your own edits, and then submit again. We're good editors, and we're pretty nice as well. If we see a canon conflict, we generally make a suggestion for fixing it, not just point it out.

Date: 2018-03-05 08:22 pm (UTC)Wanted to let you know why I've been (and likely will be until Tuesday next week) kinda radio silent - not lost interest, just lost time ;_;
Updated to add actual replies:
Great! Will be commenting as soon as I have more reading time (hopefully next week).
And yaassss, sub-plots *evil laughter* How do I get a user on the forum? Or do I have one and have forgotten about it? XD
The approval process sounds like my kind of thing - I do like getting a lot of feedback on my work to be able to improve it, so I'll likely often pick major edits!
I'm circling some characters for possible adoption already, but I want to get more into the storylines and world building before I try any of them out (my plan, if that is okay, is to try my hand at writing a character once or a few times before I decide if I should apply for adopting them - wouldn't want to grab a character and then have trouble keeping up with their personality or current storyline).
