Business as Usual

I did make some progress on Mere's paperdolls - not as much as I would have liked, but I've got all the files together and just need to make the instruction page and generate the ISBN.

I've also started fine-combing the anthology, though I seem to never have more than 10 minutes at a time. It's going to be a good one!

Art and Authoring

I have a new story up at River Twine today: Imperfect.

I'll be honest, I feel a little awkward pointing to this story. I mean, it's fanfiction. Elfquest fanfiction. Is it because I feel like I ought to be working on professional projects? Is it because I'm not as 'into' Elfquest as I used to be? Is it because Elfquest was something I equate with high school (and all the satellite drama that comes with high school).

"Go Around" is also a piece for the same fanclub. Maybe it's the prefix of 'fan' that I disagree with. I'm not that big a fan of the canon work. It will always have a soft spot for me, but I wouldn't tell you I was a 'fan' of Elfquest anymore. I like it well enough, but what I really like are the other members, and the whole shared world experience. The roots of Torn World are readily apparent here and in Kadanzer - not in the world setting, but in the idea of shared worlds and the structure of the site and membership (with my own scaly capitalist tweaks).

Torn World is Serious Stuff. I have to be on the top of my game, and produce work to specific quality. With River Twine, I can experiment. I can work with characters I wouldn't normally work with. I can try new techniques without being too concerned for the final product, and if I fall short of what I was aiming for, ah well, shrug. The experiments have been largely useful and successful; I'm not sorry I tried any of them. Torn World comes with more pressure.

Maybe the lesson here is to remember to have fun with Torn World and not take it too much to heart, and that I SHOULD take risks with it. Maybe there's no lesson to be had.

Home and Health

It's too warm. Now that it's ugly out and fall is well and truly past, I'm ready for some snow already.

Planning

A handful of orders, and paperdoll work tonight. I have new (to me!) StarGate; Atlantis season 5 was on sale at Freddies and I was weak.

[livejournal.com profile] piotrov did the 24 hour comic challenge. Check out what he did here! I'm in awe that he managed that in one day.

Thanks for the shout out, Ellen. I appreciate the kind words! It was a whole lot of fun - and surprising just how much you can get done, especially when you're surrounded by other artists all trying to out-do each other. :)

It sounds like a blast - I'm just so terribly sleep-dependent that I don't think I could manage it well...

My interest in Elfquest declined quite a bit but I was pretty excited to discover that they've put everything online for free viewing. I was finally able to finish reading some of the story lines. :)

That website, River Twine Holt, is really neat. I'd never seen it before.

River Twine is awesome. Great creative group of people, and good *structure*, which is something I really appreciate. I thought putting everything online was really awesome of them, I plan to catch up on some of the offshoots, myself!
