Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

August was publicly another fairly slow month. I had a whirlwind of family activities, and much of my creative time was on work that I won't be able to share until the big coloring book reveal (next week! Eek!). But a few things did trickle out:

Artwork:

Off the Clock: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=440
(nudity, but nothing showing!)

I did four pieces for Sketch Fest - three of them for my Sketch Tarot project: http://ellenmillion.livejournal.com/1462644.html

04 - The Emporer: http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/sketchtarot/04emperor.jpg
05 - The Heirophant: http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/sketchtarot/05heirophant.jpg
06 - The Lovers: http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/sketchtarot/06lovers.jpg

And a piece for an Elfquest fanclub: http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/sketchfest54-04-unbreakablelove.jpg
(very rough, and what was I THINKING, trying to cram five figures in an ACEO?)

I also published three old concept pieces at Torn World:

The Overlook: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=394
Yet More Snowie Sketches: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=457
Snow Kiss: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=387

Writing:

I re-wrote the Empire article for Torn World: http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=25

A metafiction article about 'Future Fiction' was posted to Torn World: http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=303 (it's the Empire's version of science fiction!)

A new article at Torn World about Northern Foods: http://www.tornworld.net/settingpageview.php?id=294

Other:

The August Patreon perk was a bundle of 3 photographs that I took during my summer class, sized for wallpapers and Facebook headers.

Favorite Guppy photo from the month: http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/baby/knitting.jpg

It rained a lot, I was ridiculously social (for me), and I worked on getting coloring books in order for the Kickstarter I'll be releasing next week. I'm looking forward to September!

I lovelovelove how light it's getting in the morning. I dread daylight savings next month. It's the saddest thing in the world to start getting up in the dark again that week.

I didn't get Sketch Fest payments out yesterday, because things. Okay, mostly one thing, with BRIGHT RED CHEEKS who wouldn't go down for her nap until nearly 5. *facepalm* Also, I made an epic shopping trip, because I had a 10% off EVERYTHING coupon to use before Friday. We stocked up on lots of staples that never seem to be on sale.

I did get the completely revised article on the snow-unicorn riders posted. The original article was terrifically out of date... a few things were even inaccurate! This is a much, much better introduction to the society. (Reminder, there's a Muse Fusion Friday!)

I also got a group for Portrait Adoption started on Facebook. I miss our PA forums, but I really don't want to deal with starting up the EMG forums again, and... evil or not, everyone is on Facebook. It's a closed group for contracted members only - if you'd like to be added, please apply: https://www.facebook.com/groups/691234977600005/

I've already started some discussion about additional rights options, and I updated the artist FAQ extensively: http://portraitadoption.com/afaq.php

I had a very odd dream last night about having to pick an appropriately colored owl chick for a long journey. I had selected a dark one, but was warned that it would stand out too much in the mountain passes I would be traveling through, so I was sorting through all these fluffy, fluffy little owls looking for the whitest one, spreading out their wings and ruffling the feather around their ears.

Breakfast now, laundry, and at some point, I am going to have to face my ridiculous writing block. It's not a creative block, just a crisis of writing confidence, made worse by continuing to avoid it. I should make bread today, too. I have a new toaster, and the novelty of toast I don't have to make under the broiler has not worn off.

Here's some artwork that you may not have seen unless you're a River Twine member!

Farscout and Brightwood - my first foray into Copics! Yay!

I also had a story go up that I don't think I've linked to - a flash fiction about Evervale discovering her plantshaping abilities: Hypnotic Bark.

Last night, I accidentally splashed some water while I was doing dishes, which landed at Guppy's feet as she was playing by the fridge (magnets are one of her recent favorite things). She stared at the little puddles for a long moment, then knelt down. I fully expected her to start splashing in them, but there wasn't quite enough water there to worry about - and besides, we were headed for a bath and then bed in short order. But she didn't play with it at all! She pulled down the dishtowel hanging on the fridge handle, and very carefully, very deliberately wiped up the entire spill, then tried to hang the dishtowel back up!! Jake and I gaped at her for a moment, then praised her exuberantly and helped her hang the dishtowel. She was enormously pleased with herself. It was adorable. Seriously.

Speaking of helping... I was sorting out her clothing this weekend and she decided it would be helpful to crawl into the drawer and start inspecting everything in it:

I did finally get that ironing done. I hate ironing. Another load of laundry is ready to move to the dryer now, and I need to make bread today. Also, I want to buy some ladybugs; my delphiniums have aphids. RARRR!

New Torn World story up! Three To Go South

I've got half an outline for the next section - by popular opinion, I need one more segment before I pass off the torch for a bit, and I agree that it will be a good bit to show. I also have half an outline for a speech I have been roped into making on my Kickstarter experience for the Alaska Writers Guild. Their request had good synchronicity, because I've been toying with the idea of doing something like Toastmasters for a while now - I need more practice giving talks. I will polish it up into an article when I'm done and maybe shop it around for publication somewhere. (First time rights only - ideally, it will go up for free on my site once their exclusive period is finished.)

I've made some art progress for Fanastrix, but very little. I did also have to doodle some fanart for Three Jaguars:

I had to!

ETA: And for those of you on fire-watch - the Stuart Creek Fire is not a threat to us personally (we live 30-odd miles away), but some areas at the other side of town are being evacuated. Keep those people in your thoughts! http://www.newsminer.com/news/local_news/stuart-creek-fire-at-acres-two-rivers-evacuates/article_c80adcf6-e747-11e2-92b4-001a4bcf6878.html

Business as Usual

I did make some progress on Mere's paperdolls - not as much as I would have liked, but I've got all the files together and just need to make the instruction page and generate the ISBN.

I've also started fine-combing the anthology, though I seem to never have more than 10 minutes at a time. It's going to be a good one!

Art and Authoring

I have a new story up at River Twine today: Imperfect.

I'll be honest, I feel a little awkward pointing to this story. I mean, it's fanfiction. Elfquest fanfiction. Is it because I feel like I ought to be working on professional projects? Is it because I'm not as 'into' Elfquest as I used to be? Is it because Elfquest was something I equate with high school (and all the satellite drama that comes with high school).

"Go Around" is also a piece for the same fanclub. Maybe it's the prefix of 'fan' that I disagree with. I'm not that big a fan of the canon work. It will always have a soft spot for me, but I wouldn't tell you I was a 'fan' of Elfquest anymore. I like it well enough, but what I really like are the other members, and the whole shared world experience. The roots of Torn World are readily apparent here and in Kadanzer - not in the world setting, but in the idea of shared worlds and the structure of the site and membership (with my own scaly capitalist tweaks).

Torn World is Serious Stuff. I have to be on the top of my game, and produce work to specific quality. With River Twine, I can experiment. I can work with characters I wouldn't normally work with. I can try new techniques without being too concerned for the final product, and if I fall short of what I was aiming for, ah well, shrug. The experiments have been largely useful and successful; I'm not sorry I tried any of them. Torn World comes with more pressure.

Maybe the lesson here is to remember to have fun with Torn World and not take it too much to heart, and that I SHOULD take risks with it. Maybe there's no lesson to be had.

/ramble.

Home and Health

It's too warm. Now that it's ugly out and fall is well and truly past, I'm ready for some snow already.

Planning

A handful of orders, and paperdoll work tonight. I have new (to me!) StarGate; Atlantis season 5 was on sale at Freddies and I was weak.

[livejournal.com profile] piotrov did the 24 hour comic challenge. Check out what he did here! I'm in awe that he managed that in one day.

DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE!!!

I have finished my last story for Kadanzer and they are both sent off for approvals. I will probably have some edits to do, but the huge, mind-crushing bulk of the job is done. DONE.

What a weight off.

Also, there is a new issue of EMG-Zine up, now that I have squashed a couple of lingering bugs, posted a lost feature and added the ad graphics.

Did I mention I was done with Kadanzer? I'm just waiting on approvals, may need to make tiny, minor edits, and I am DONE.

*sniffles*

(ETA: I just counted - I produced more than 65 pieces of fiction for Kaz, or contributed to them, and more than 80 pieces of artwork. No wonder it's so hard to say goodbye.)
